Welcome to Aspiring Teens, where a teen who is focused on their future tells us their story! If you know a teen who deserves to be featured, feel free to send in their information.
Isabel | Age 16 | Born to Stand Out
Life has a way of throwing us directly into what we were meant to do For some of us, it’s when we’re older, but for a few like Isabel, it happens when we are young. This inspiring teen hails from Missouri and it was a true honor to have her visit us in the Chicago studio. Isabel has a way of looking into the camera, that pierces straight into your soul (as I shared with her mother) and just being in her presence for a few hours has left a deep impression on me.
Isabel was happy to answer a few questions for us about her love of dance and her stand to bring awareness to Alopecia, which affects millions worldwide, of all ages.
What do you love most about yourself?
The thing I love most about myself is my confidence. I love my ability to love myself and love everything about me. I lost a lot of my confidence when I was first diagnosed with Alopecia but I am beginning to gain it back and I have never felt happier.
When did you first become interested in dance and what inspires you to continue with it?
I first started dancing when I was 10 years old. After my first recital, I got asked to join the competition squad at my studio. That was when I realized dance was my “thing”. It was the one thing I was really good at. I love going to practice because, no matter what happened during the day, when I dance I forget about all of it.
Tell me about a goal you are working on.
A goal I am working on is spreading awareness about Alopecia and educating people about what Alopecia is. I have been able to educate my friends, the girls on my dance teams, and my entire school. My school recently did a story on me for the newspaper to share with the school what I have and to share my story.
That article of her powerful story and the impact she has on so many, can be read below.
So glad to have met you and your amazing family, Isabel!
